Fight Depression 😅3️⃣: How I Kickstarted Doing Simple, Fun Things?

Principle 3: Do fun simple things.

"[Life happens, so what? Welcome to Dd So What.] " Hello, everyone. I am Dd. How are you doing today? I am glad to see you are back. Today I will share the 3rd principle that helped me manage depression. The links to the previous ones are in the description. OK, Let's jump right in. ] " " Principle 3: Do fun simple things.

I was already worried when I decided to plant something in my empty yard. There were a lot of "what ifs" that jumped into my mind. What if I forgot to water the plants? What if the plants die? What if the plants grow into a weird shape? A weird shape? That is right. Please don't judge me. I know the worry was not even logical at that point.

The plan was to do something fun and take a break from my daily stress. However, I immediately put myself in another stressful situation. In this case, I created those "what ifs" problems subconsciously. It seems like I didn't believe I deserved a break or happiness. But when I realized this thought, it wasn't subconscious anymore. It dawned on me that those "what-ifs" were not logical.

I deserve to be happy as everyone else, and we all deserve to be happy. Life shouldn't be wasted in a world of what-ifs. Of course, everyone needs a jump-start. Then, what is mine?

Meyer lemon tree. That is correct. You didn't hear it wrong. A Meyer lemon. That is my jump-start. I have always dreamed of having a Meyer lemon tree. Whenever I passed neighbors' houses and saw those Meyer lemon trees, I thought: "It is such a cute tree, and it smells so good. I wish I could have one."

Jump, just jump!

Today is the day. It is the day I jump right in. My husband and I drove 45 minutes to one of the biggest citrus nurseries. After browsing tons of trees, I found my first Meyer lemon tree. It is a three-year-old, well-established young tree with tons of flower buds. But my attention was suddenly drawn to a grasshopper eating a navel orange tree. That tree looked sad with its chewed yellow leaves. Obviously, it had a pest infestation and a malnutrition issue. Somehow, I also decided to buy this unhealthy navel orange tree and believed I could turn it around. The courage to take this tree remains a mystery. As a result, I brought back two trees: an unhealthy navel orange tree and my very first gorgeous Meyer lemon tree.

I put them in the sunniest spot of my garden and began my intensive research on how to take care of lemon and orange trees. Since most of my energy has moved toward taking care of trees, my depression seems to have diminished a bit. Well, honestly, a person can only process a certain amount of information daily. And I simply didn't have enough energy to feel depressed all the time. Being occupied with something simple and fun certainly helped me feel less depressed. It is a way to change the scenery of my life and hope to find peace again.
